Amazon Ads Move Into Alexa Shopping Chats

Sponsored Products and Brands now appear inside Alexa for Shopping conversations — where 350M shoppers spent 40% more per order. Discovery is shifting to answers, not keywords.

At Accelerate 2026, Amazon confirmed that your existing Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands campaigns now appear inside Alexa for Shopping conversations, with no new setup required. The reason this matters is the scale behind the assistant: more than 350 million customers used Alexa for Shopping in the past twelve months, and US customers who use it spend 40% more per order on average.

What changed

Alexa for Shopping, which replaced the Rufus assistant in May, lets shoppers describe a need in natural language instead of typing a product name. It reads your entire detail page and searches the web — including publications and review sites — to match products, remembers a shopper's preferences, budget and past purchases, and works without a Prime membership or an Echo device. Usage nearly doubled year over year in Q2 2026, with total interactions up more than five times. Existing ad campaigns now surface inside those conversations automatically, and Amazon's Sponsored Prompts — conversation starters on your product page — have driven a 6% conversion lift for Sponsored Brands in early results.

What it means for listings

The shift is from keyword matching to answering a question. A listing written for keyword density reads badly when an assistant is quoting it back to a real shopper, and what third-party reviews and press say about your product now feeds the match. Amazon's own framing: discovery is moving from "what keyword did they type" to "what problem does this product solve, and who is it for."

What to do

On your top SKUs, make the detail page state plainly who the product is for, the problem it solves, and the concrete details — dimensions, materials, age range, certifications. Pull the actual questions shoppers ask from your reviews and return comments, and answer them in bullets and A+ content. Then check where your brand appears in third-party reviews, since that now influences what the assistant recommends. The ads run automatically; the listing copy is where the work is.
